Getting started
What does Tekk-it do?
Tekk-it is a managed IT provider for New York small businesses. We handle help desk support, cybersecurity, data backup and recovery, proactive monitoring, networking and Wi-Fi, and IT consulting, for one flat monthly price.
You can have us cover everything, or start with one problem area, like Wi-Fi or backups, and add more later.
What is managed IT, and how is it different from calling someone when something breaks?
Managed IT means one team looks after your technology every day for a monthly fee: keeping computers updated, watching for problems, protecting accounts and answering your team’s questions. Calling someone only when something breaks is called break-fix.
The difference shows up between emergencies. With managed IT, someone is catching the failing drive, the missed update or the risky setting before it stops work.
What size businesses do you work with?
We are built for offices of roughly 10 to 50 people: big enough to need real IT, but too small for a full-time IT department. Smaller teams are welcome to reach out too.
Which industries do you work with?
We focus on small businesses and startups, creative and talent agencies, professional services firms such as accounting, tax and insurance offices, law firms, and schools.
Each of these has its own pressures, from tax season to client confidentiality to summer Wi-Fi projects, and we plan our work around them.
What happens on the free consultation?
It is a conversation about your setup, not a sales pitch. We ask how your office works, what is frustrating you and what is coming up, then tell you plainly whether and how we can help.
If we can’t help, or you don’t need us, we’ll say so and point you somewhere useful if we can.
What does the free assessment look at?
We review four areas: email and sign-in security, backups, your computers and their updates, and your network and Wi-Fi. You get a plain-English report of what we found and what we would fix first.
The report is yours to keep, whether or not you hire us.
How long does it take to get started?
Onboarding takes about 30 days. In the first week we hold a short kickoff call and collect the access we need. Over the next few weeks we document your setup, install our support and protection tools, turn on two-step sign-in, set up backups and test a restore.
Most of it happens in the background, scheduled around your busy times. At day 30 we meet to review what we found, what we fixed and what we recommend next.
Do we need to replace our current setup?
Almost never. We start from what you have, keep what works, and only recommend changes that clearly improve reliability, security or cost.
We already have someone handling IT. Can you still help?
Often, yes. We can take over completely, or work alongside your current person: we take on the heavier work, like security, backups and the network, while they keep handling day-to-day requests.
If your current arrangement is working, we’ll tell you so.
Plans and pricing
How much does managed IT cost?
Your office pays one flat monthly price, based on how many people and devices we support and the level of protection you choose. We give you a ballpark on the consultation, and the exact number in writing before anyone asks you to sign.
Is there a contract or a minimum term?
No long-term contract. Plans are month to month, with no minimum and no early-termination fee, so you stay because it’s working.
If you decide to leave, you give written notice and we help you move on smoothly.
What’s included in the monthly price?
Every plan includes unlimited remote help desk support during business hours, monitoring and updates for your computers, antivirus, cloud backup for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, and dealing with your other IT vendors for you.
Higher levels of protection add detection and response on every computer, continuous vulnerability scanning, on-site visits, quarterly technology reviews and 24/7 threat monitoring.
What costs extra?
Projects that change your setup rather than maintain it, such as office moves, migrations, new software rollouts or cabling, are quoted per job before any work starts. Work you ask us to do outside business hours is billed hourly. Hardware and software purchases are listed on your quote.
We always tell you before anything costs extra. No surprise invoices.
Is there a setup fee?
Yes, a one-time onboarding fee covers the first 30 days of work: documenting your setup, installing protection, setting up and testing backups, and fixing what the assessment found. It is shown on your proposal before you sign.
Can we sign up for just one service?
Yes. You can start with one problem area, like Wi-Fi or backups, and add more later. We build the package around what you need.
Can you help if we’re not on a monthly plan?
Yes. We take on one-time jobs, billed hourly with a one-hour minimum, and larger projects are quoted per job before we start.
Support and response
How fast can I reach a real person?
Call (917) 342-2790 Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern, to reach our team directly. You can also email support@tekk-it.com.
Every request gets a reply the same day during business hours. Requests after hours get a reply the next business morning.
What hours do you cover?
Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern Time. We are closed on US federal holidays.
Our plans cover business hours. Work you need outside those hours is available and billed hourly.
What happens after hours or on weekends?
Call (917) 342-2790 and leave a voicemail. We pick it up first thing the next business morning.
On our highest level of protection, your computers are also watched around the clock for security threats, and overnight and weekend security incidents are covered.
Do you come on-site?
Yes. We handle most issues remotely so they get fixed fast, and we come on-site across New York City, Yonkers and Westchester when the job needs hands.
How does remote support work?
We install a secure support tool on each computer we look after. When you need help, we connect, fix the problem while you watch, and log every session.
Only named Tekk-it engineers can connect, and every account we use is protected with two-step sign-in.
Do you support Macs as well as Windows computers?
Yes. We support both Mac and Windows computers, plus the phones and tablets your team uses for work.
Do you work with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace?
Yes. We set up, secure, back up and support both.
Will you deal with our internet provider and other vendors?
Yes. We call your internet provider, phone system vendor, printer company and software vendors for you, so your team doesn’t have to sit on hold.
Security and backups
How do you keep my business secure?
We layer protections: two-step sign-in on every account, protection software on every computer, email filtering, a properly managed firewall, and updates applied on a schedule, with critical security updates installed within 14 days of release.
Security isn’t a product we install once. We watch and manage it for you every day.
How do you protect our passwords and data?
Your passwords are stored only in an encrypted password vault, never in email, tickets or text messages. Every Tekk-it engineer uses a named account with two-step sign-in, and requests to reset a password or change access are confirmed by calling back a number already on file.
No script or setting change runs across all clients until a second Tekk-it owner has reviewed it, and we never put client passwords or regulated data into AI tools.
How do backups work, and do you test them?
Backups run automatically, with copies stored away from your office. Every month we restore something on purpose, like a file, a mailbox or a whole computer, to prove the backups work.
We also back up Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, because those services keep deleted email and files for a limited time only.
What happens if someone clicks a bad link or we get hit by ransomware?
Call us right away and leave the computer on. We contain the problem, find out what happened, and restore your files from backup if needed. We work with your insurer and attorney, and send you a written summary within 3 business days.
Reporting a click quickly is never a problem, even if it turns out to be nothing.
Can you help with our cyber insurance application or a client’s security questionnaire?
Yes. We help you answer each question accurately, with records to back it up, and point out anything that should be fixed first.
You sign the application, so we never let an answer overstate what is in place. A wrong answer can put a future claim at risk.
Can you make us compliant with HIPAA, the FTC Safeguards Rule or DFS rules?
We put the technical safeguards in place, like two-step sign-in, encryption, backups, updates and monitoring, and give you the records to show it. Whether your business meets a particular rule is decided by your attorney or compliance advisor.
We’re glad to work directly with them.
Industries and regulations
We prepare taxes. Does the FTC Safeguards Rule apply to us?
Very likely. Under federal law, tax preparers and accounting firms count as financial institutions, so they need a written information security plan, or WISP.
We help with the technical parts of the plan and the protections behind it. Your attorney or advisor confirms what applies to your firm.
We’re an insurance agency. Can you help with the DFS cybersecurity rules?
Yes. We put the required technical controls in place, such as two-step sign-in and encryption, and keep the records your agency needs for its yearly filing with the New York Department of Financial Services, due April 15.
The agency signs its own filing, so we make sure every answer is backed by evidence.
Do you work with law firms?
Yes. We protect client confidentiality with two-step sign-in, encrypted laptops and secure file sharing, and help firms guard against wire fraud during closings and settlements.
We sign a confidentiality agreement before we see anything.
Do you work with schools?
Yes. We focus on networks and Wi-Fi, staff devices and summer upgrade projects, working alongside the school’s own IT staff.
We don’t manage student devices.
If you ever leave
What happens if we decide to leave?
We hand over your passwords, admin access and documentation within about 3 to 5 business days. Our own access is removed last, only after you confirm you are in control.
We keep your data and backups for 60 days as a safety net, then delete them and confirm it in writing. We never hold data or access back over a dispute.
Who owns our accounts and data?
You do. Your email, domain and software accounts stay in your business’s name. We add our own named admin account to do our work, and you keep yours.
