What we hear from professional firms
- One person handles IT on top of their real job, and they’re running out of patience.
- A client or insurer sent a security questionnaire and nobody knows the answers.
- Former employees may still have access to email and shared files.
- Passwords live in a spreadsheet, and multi-factor sign-in is on for some accounts but not others.
- When the internet or a laptop goes down, billable hours go with it.
- You’re not sure what you’re paying for, or what’s actually backed up.

IT Consulting →New York rules
The rules we help you meet
NY SHIELD Act
Requires reasonable safeguards for personal information like ID numbers, account numbers and logins. Small businesses can scale safeguards to their size.
How we help: Multi-factor sign-in, access controls, encryption, backups, monitoring, staff training and secure device disposal.
FTC Safeguards Rule
Requires a written security plan, a named person in charge, a risk assessment, multi-factor sign-in, encryption and an incident response plan. Breaches affecting 500 or more people must be reported to the FTC within 30 days.
How we help: Multi-factor sign-in, encryption and monitoring, plus the technical input for your written plan.
NYDFS cybersecurity regulation (Part 500)
Even small licensed firms need a cybersecurity program and policies, multi-factor sign-in, access controls, a risk assessment, an asset inventory, annual training and an annual filing by April 15.
How we help: Multi-factor sign-in, a device inventory, staff training and written records for your annual filing.
NY breach notification law
If personal information is exposed, affected New Yorkers must be notified within 30 days, along with state agencies.
How we help: An incident response plan, and records that show what was accessed so you can act quickly.
NY Labor Law 203-d
Employee Social Security numbers can’t sit in files anyone can open, appear on badges or be posted publicly.
How we help: Locking down HR and payroll folders, with regular checks on who has access.
We help you meet the technology side of these rules. We don’t give legal advice, and some rules apply only above certain sizes or to certain licenses, so confirm your obligations with your attorney or compliance advisor.
A typical setup
What it looks like in practice
Picture a 12-person accounting firm in Midtown. Staff work from home two days a week, tax season doubles the workload, and clients email over sensitive documents every day.
We’d turn on multi-factor sign-in everywhere, encrypt every laptop, set up secure remote access, back up client files with regular test restores and keep written records of your safeguards. Updates and changes stay clear of your client deadlines.
